Marian died on February 4, 2012, after a brief illness. She is survived by her children, grandchildren and great grandchild: Carol Lee Brown, Rebecca Adams, William Wagner Brown, Jr., Sue Keith Brown, Brehany Santee Brown, William Wagner Brown III, Brandi White Brown, Christen Elizabeth Brown and Brianna Brown. She is also survived by her brother, Scott Santee Walker, and numerous nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her life-long sweetheart, her husband of 57 years, William “Bill” Wagner Brown, her parents, Martha Santee and William Scott Walker, and brother, Donald Wood Walker.
Marian was born on September 27, 1930, in Chicago, Illinois. She graduated in 1948 from Evanston Township High. She then graduated from Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri. She met Bill in 1952; married in 1953, thus starting her career in homemaking. They established their family in Texas, expanded it in Missouri, and put down roots in Alabama in 1961. The Browns were proud residents of Homewood and were charter members of Green Valley (now Hoover) Country Club and a member of The Club for many years.
Marian was a dedicated volunteer at Brookwood Hospital and began her service in September, 1974, continuing until the present time. Her girls, “The TULAS” will sorely miss her sage advice, humorous outlook and sparkling personality. Also missed will be her recognition of all holidays, her respect of structure and routine; and especially post-game phone calls rejoicing or lamenting her beloved Auburn Tigers.
A celebration service will be held at Ridout’s Funeral Home, Valley Chapel, 1800 Oxmoor Rd, Homewood, AL 35209 (205-879-3401) on Wednesday, February 8th, 2012, at 12:30 pm. Visitation will begin one (1) hour prior to the service. Marian requested cremation and following the service she will be interred with Bill, at the Alabama National (Veterans) Cemetery, 3133 Hwy 119, Montevallo, AL (205-665-9039).
The professionalism of the medical staff at St Vincent’s Hospital, especially the gentle folks at 1 South ICU, will never be forgotten. As Marian had a great love for her canine kids, especially Pierre, donations to the Greater Birmingham Humane Society, 300 Snow Dr., Homewood, AL 35209 (205-397-8533) would be appreciated, in lieu of flowers.
