

Marie Christopher Holley passed away on the 1st day of May 2022, peacefully in her sleep. She was 91 years old and was born in Birmingham on the 20th of June 1930 to the late Joseph William and Grace Essig Christopher. Marie is survived by her daughter Pam as well as numerous nieces and nephews by marriage.
Marie graduated from Woodlawn High School Class of 1948 and then went to Howard College (Samford University), where she graduated with a double major in Education and sociology. She was a member of Phi Mu Sorority ad the legacy League (Samford Auxiliary) as well as the Rotunda Club. She also served as a volunteer and member of Birmingham Museum of Art. It was at Sanford that she met Neal Holley who would become her husband.
Marie worked for Moore-Handley while in school. After having Pam, she happily became a mother and homemaker. She was a member of McElwain Baptist Church, where she taught young girls Sunday school and was secretary to the staff. Later on she worked as the secretary to the Dean at McWhorter School of Pharmacy at Sanford and also secretary at Cumberland School of Law. Marie loved being around the students.
At the time of her passing she was a member of the Church at Liberty Park (formerly Liberty Park Baptist Church) where she loved her Sunday school class and playing bridge. She loved bridge and was in several groups. She also loved to travel and was always ready for a trip, going to their house on Lake Harding, riding on the boat, sightseeing and especially reading where her favorite past times. She was also an avid sports fan and kept up with all the football and basketball games.
Marie was a wonderful wife, great mom and good friend and she will be greatly missed. Pam would like to express many, many thanks to the “other daughter” Faye Lawley for her loving care of many years.
Visitation will be at Ridout’s Valley Chapel on Thursday, the 5th of May 2022 beginning at ten o’clock in the morning with funeral following at eleven o’clock. Graveside service will be private.
