A memorial service for Mary Klyce Cobb, who passed away surrounded by family on Sunday, will be held on Thursday, June 16, 2022, at 2:00 pm at Canterbury United Methodist Church with the Reverend Tori Hastings officiating. Visitation will precede the memorial at 1:00 pm in the church parlor. Mary lived in Birmingham, Alabama her entire life. She graduated from John Carroll High School, attended Springhill College in Mobile and graduated from the University of Alabama in 1962. She was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. After graduating with a degree in journalism, Mary worked for several local advertising agencies. She was a copywriter and creative director having won a number of ADDY Awards for her writing. Mary loved being a member of numerous garden and dance clubs and especially cherished her time with the Queen of Diamonds Bridge Club and The Lunch Bunch. She was a talented artist who created bright, cheerful paintings which she sold and sometimes gifted to others. Her love for art lead her to work on the Members Board of the Birmingham Museum of Art.
What she loved most in her life was being a wife, mother and grandmother. Mary loved spending time at Lake Martin with her extended family in the home she called her "happy place". She joyfully rallied the family to decorate the pontoon boat to attend the 4th of July boat parades. She and Bobby traveled all over the world, sometimes inviting the daughters and their families, if they were lucky.
She was preceded in death by her parents Martin Peter Klyce Jr. and Grace McGeever Klyce, her brother Michael Joseph Klyce, her sister, Carolyn Klyce Robinson and her nephew, Russell Klyce. Mary is survived by her husband, Robert Martin Cobb, her daughters, Bonnie Siegelman Flournoy (Tom) and Mary Louise Brooks (Reese). Survivors also include her grandchildren Thomas Fleming Flournoy V, Connor Martin Flournoy, Reese Sawyer Brooks and Grace Alice Brooks. Other family include her brothers John Martin Klyce (Mary Kay), Robert William Klyce (Barbara) and Peter Reece Klyce (Susan) as well as many other family and friends.
Memorials may be made to the Friends of the Birmingham Botanical Gardens 2612 Lane Park Rd, Birmingham, AL 35223 or Canterbury United Methodist Church 350 Overbrook Rd, Mountain Brook, AL 35213
