Mary Christine Wilson Dick, a resident of Mountain Brook, Alabama passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at the age of 96. Mary was born on September 22, 1927 in Ferriday, Louisiana and is preceded in death by her husband Orville Kellar Dick; her parents, William Joseph and Rosa Love White Wilson; and four brothers and one sister. She is survived by her three children Rebecca Dick Peinhardt (Curt), Mary Kay Dick Allen (Danny), and David K. Dick (Tracey); and six grandchildren Kate Peinhardt Blackmon (William), Courtney Peinhardt Stidham (Jonathan), Patrick W. Allen, Ashley Allen, Lindsay Dick Serena (Josh), and Aimee Dick; and five great grandchildren Abigail Whitehead, Evelyn Stidham, Katherine Blackmon, Eleanor Stidham, and Mary Charlotte Blackmon.
Mary Dick was originally from Louisiana. She loved school and graduated from Ferriday High School as class valedictorian. She attended Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana and earned her degree in elementary education. While there, she met her future husband O. Kellar Dick. They married in 1950 and spent 66 happy and committed years together, many of which were in Birmingham, Alabama. Mary taught first and second grades and was involved in many church activities, teaching children’s classes, and missions. She was an active member of McElwain Baptist Church and later Brookwood Baptist Church in Birmingham where she maintained friendships and fellowship from both. Mary was an excellent “southern” cook and hostess. She often catered meals for her husband’s business meetings. She enjoyed hand sewing of all types, but especially quilting. She “made” a home for her family and was ever present in the days of their lives making certain their needs were met. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was much loved and respected by her family and all who knew her.
Mary loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She strived in word and deed to show the love of Christ. She will be greatly missed but we rejoice that she is “home” with her heavenly father and all her family who have gone before her. May her memory be a blessing.
The family would like to thank Pastor Blake Dempsey, Dr. Bryant Strain, and the wonderful caregivers with Aspire Health Cahaba and ExpectCare who have all been such a blessing.
A memorial service will be held at Brookwood Baptist Church on Monday December 18th at 12PM. The family will receive friends at 11AM. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Brookwood Baptist Church.
