Nov. 3, 1921-Sept. 25, 2013
Mary Frances was born November 3, 1921 in Ailey Georgia, to Edward and Sadie Blount, she graduated from Tift College in Forsyth Georgia. On June 20, 1943, she married Dr. Herbert A. McCullough.
Mary Frances had a passion for teaching children. She taught kindergarten for most of her adult life much of that time at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church; a church she supported and served faithfully for over six decades. Her passion for education extended to her social life, as well, and she maintained active membership in the Samford University Faculty Wives Club, the Samford University Auxiliary, and many other groups well into her retirement. In February 2010, she was awarded the Lola Wright Award for Outstanding Service by the Samford University Auxiliary.
The only thing higher than her expectations of others was her expectation for herself. Mary Frances was tenacious, hardworking, and lived to serve her Lord and love her family. Friends were blessed by her sacrificial efforts on their behalf. Mary Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Herbert A. McCullough, parents, Edward and Sadie Blount, brothers James and Edward Bount, and sister Marguerite Derrick.
Mary Frances's ability to see the good in others was always a powerful example to those around her. She will be greatly missed.
Mary Frances is survived by her son and daughter and their families: son John (Kathy) McCullough of Dothan, AL; granddaughter Katie (Christopher) Trueblood, Knoxville TN; grandson Ryan McCullough, Dothan, AL; daughter Barbara (Michael) Kolden of Plattsmouth, NE; grandson Kristopher Kolden, Brooklyn NY; grandson Kurtis (Tara) Kolden, Plattsmouth, NE; granddaughter Karly (Justin) Idle, Newnan, GA.
