Mary Payne

With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Mary Payne on May 31, 2025, in Birmingham, Alabama. Born on August 2, 1935, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, Mary lived a life filled with love, strength, and unwavering devotion to her family.

Mary was known for her love of baking, filling her home with the warmth of homemade treats that brought joy to family and friends. She found solace in gardening, cultivating beauty in both her surroundings and the lives of those she cherished. Her passion for interior design reflected her creativity and keen eye for making any space feel like home. A devoted fan of Notre Dame football, she never missed an opportunity to cheer for the Fighting Irish, sharing her enthusiasm with family and friends during game days.

She was a beloved mother to her son, Tom, and a proud grandmother to six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Her kindness and wisdom touched the lives of all who knew her, creating cherished memories that will endure.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Payne, and her children, Jim, Mike, Joe, and Jennifer. Though she has reunited with them in peace, her presence will be deeply missed by those she leaves behind.

Her legacy of love, creativity, family, and sportsmanship will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her.
