Michael Eugene Laughlin, 60, of Birmingham, AL passed away on Friday, June 5th, 2015 at UAB Hospital in Birmingham. Mike was born in Lebanon, MO on June 1st, 1954 to parents Eugene and Helen Laughlin. He was a 1972 graduate of Lebanon High School and attended Louisiana State University on a golf scholarship and also attended the University of Missouri – Columbia.
In the early 80’s Mike relocated to the Birmingham area where he made his living in the construction industry selling concrete products. To say that Mike was a good salesman was an understatement. His loveable, larger than life personality suited sales perfectly, and he excelled at it.
While he achieved a level of success professionally, it was his abundant love for life, family and friends that will be remembered the most. An avid golfer, fisherman and cook were just a few of the many joys that brought out the best in him, as he would always have a smile on his face, a joke or story to tell, and a laid back, southern charm that attracted those around him. His contagious laugh and child-like spirit will certainly be missed by many.
Music was another passion of his, as a member of the Edgewood Presbyterian Church Choir for many years. Mike’s love of people and spirit for life blossomed with music, whether he was singing in church, at random or dancing with someone at a party, he always found a way to make those around him feel loved. Those who knew him well will certainly miss the music.
Mike is preceded in death by his father Eugene “Gunfighter” Adolphus Laughlin and mother Helen Laurel Hessler.
He is survived by his wife Melody Martin Laughlin, daughter Laurel Avery Lowe, son-in-law Joshua William Lowe, grandchildren Matthew William Lowe, 5, William Tucker Lowe, 4, sister Leah Laughlin Jones, brother-in-law James Richard Jones, nephews James Jeffrey Jones and Jay-Vincent Jones along with many other nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial gifts can be made to the Edgewood Presbyterian Church Benevolence Fund, or to the Living River Camp and Retreat Center in Montevallo, AL.
