

born in Homewood, Alabama on December 26, 1940 to Francis Howell Williams and Howard E.
Williams. Mike, as he was known affectionately, graduated from Shades Valley High School and
received a Masters Degree in Education from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Michael
spent most of his career as a social studies teacher to 7th and 8th Grade students at Pittman
Middle School and Hueytown Middle School. Although, some may remember his time as Mayor
of Highland Lake in Blount County, Alabama. Michael's love for children and education followed
him into retirement where he served Shades Cahaba Elementary as a crossing guard, reading
specialist, and extended day counselor. He was married to the love of his life, Marie G. Williams,
for over 40 years, before her death in October of 2020. Together they were members at St.
Paul's Cathedral in Birmingham, Alabama and built a life for their blended families. He is
survived by his daughters, Vonda Hooks (David, Destiny, Bridget), Bari Joy Williams (Summer
Hux), and Grandson, Jay Michael Williams. He is also survived by his sister, Marilyn Guyer
(Ginger and Cindy) of Shelby County.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 5th, 2022 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Ridout's Valley Chapel in Homewood.
The funeral service will be held at The Cathedral of St. Paul in Birmingham, Alabama on Monday, June 6th, 2022 at 10am, with a graveside to follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
