Nancy Lynn White Edwards, 69, of Birmingham, Alabama went to her heavenly home on September 14, 2023. Nancy was born on March 5, 1954 in Birmingham, Alabama to Leonard Henderson White and Margery Burland White. She was the second youngest of five children. Her younger brother, Lenny, passed away when they were children, which was a loss she carried with her throughout her life. She attended Berry High School where she met her husband, George William (Bill) Edwards, III. They attended Auburn University together where Nancy earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting and passed the certified professional accountant exam. She remained a licensed CPA in the state of Alabama for the remainder of her life.
After graduation, they married on December 18, 1976. Bill took a job with the Federal Bureau of Investigation which took them to Gaithersburg, Maryland. There, Nancy worked for the prestigious Ernst & Ernst, a “Big Eight” accounting firm at the time. In 1978, they moved back home to Birmingham and started a family. Kelly Lynn Edwards Woosley was born on June 17, 1982 and William Mitchell (Mitch) Edwards was born on October 17, 1983. Bill started his own company, Pro Color Paint Supply, out of Montgomery, Alabama. Nancy took a position with her family’s company, Whitefab Inc., where she was still employed at the time of her passing. Nancy was blessed with seven beautiful grandchildren: Kelly and her husband, Chip, have Sawyer, Tucker, and Finley Woosley; Mitch and his wife, Maggie, have Will, Caroline, Evelyn and Alex Edwards.
Nancy was active in her church, Christ Church. She was an avid reader, enjoyed traveling, watching sunsets at the lake, and hosting friends & family with her wonderful meals. She was an Auburn Tiger through and through and proudly followed Auburn football. However, what she delighted in most was spending time with her family and friends. Bill was the love of her life and they were looking forward to many years ahead traveling the country in their RV with their three dogs who brought her so much joy. Even as adults, Kelly and Mitch still looked to their mother for guidance and she showed them what unconditional love and support looked like with such grace and ease. She adored her grandchildren and was a constant presence in their lives. She was also a rock to her siblings and other extended family.
To know Nancy was to know selflessness. Her love for her Savior was displayed by how she treated everyone like family. She was a beautiful picture of Jesus to all those she encountered. She served those around her with so much joy and was willing to help in any way she possibly could, never asking for anything in return. Her presence was an absolute gift to those blessed to know her and she will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her husband, her children and grandchildren, her siblings Monroe Fields (Linda), Linda Meyer and Barbara Mulle, her sisters-in-law Ann Colvard, Gail Palmer (Alan) and Laurie Moses (John) as well as her many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She also leaves behind many friends, some of whom date back to childhood.
Nancy succumbed to the impacts of a short illness with Bill, Kelly & Mitch by her side. A Celebration of Life service will take place at Christ Church, 5091 Caldwell Mill Road, Birmingham, AL 35242 on September 22 at 11 a.m., with family visitation preceding the service at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that expressions of condolence take the form of contributions to Christ Church or the charity of your choice in her honor.
