Paul was born on May 31,1952 in Detroit, Michigan, the eldest child of Patricia Fountain Casey and Col. James F. Casey. Since his father was U.S.A.F., Paul moved to many places as a child across the US and England. Maxwell A.F.B. brought the family to Montgomery, where Paul graduated from Catholic High School in 1969. Friendships from Catholic High remain even to this day.
Paul attended the University of Alabama, Auburn, and Troy, where he graduated with a degree in finance. His career was initially in banking, but he transitioned to the brokerage business starting at E.F. Hutton in Montgomery and ending at Stifel here in Birmingham.
Paul was an avid Auburn fan – especially for football and basketball. He loved golf and was always trying to "break 90". Eventually, at times, he was even trying to "break 80". These were all happy days.
Paul's greatest blessing was his loving family. He was the family's center of gravity. He was married to Abby Fincannon Casey for 42 years. His oldest child is Jennifer Casey Nall, married to Tad. Next came Aimee Elizabeth Casey. The youngest, James F. Casey II is married to Cassandra. The three grandchildren, of whom he was so proud, are Ethan Nall, Elizabeth Casey, and Catherine Casey. He also has two younger siblings, Steve Casey and Gail Casey Hansen. Finally, he is sorely missed by his two dogs, Wallace and Franklin.
When Paul passed away, the world lost a truly great man. He was brilliant, funny, and caring. He always knew how to get things done. Everyone who knew him will surely miss him.
Paul did not want a big funeral, which is typical of him. There will be a private service at Our Lady of Sorrows for family only. A Celebration of his Life will be held at Vestavia Country Club, with the date and details to be announced. The family has requested that no flowers be sent.
