Paula Bennett, age 83, of Vestavia Hills passed away on May 3, 2011. She was born in Chicago IL and was preceded in death by her husband Donald. She is survived by her sons Stephen, Wayne, James, Michael and Phillip, ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She attended New Trier High School in IL and Iowa State Univ. before graduating from Muskingham College, New Concord, OH. She was a teacher in various schools most recently in Birmingham. She was a LEAD reading teacher in Augusta, GA, and in retirement continued to work with the GED Program in Birmingham.
Her interests included gardening, painting, drawing, needlepoint, stain glass, quilting and rug hooking. She loved to cook and had attended the Antoinette Pope School of Fancy Cookery in Chicago. She had a love of the outdoors and animals. She had a quick wit and sense of humor, which will be missed by all.
Donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
A Memorial Service will be held on May 7, 2011 at 3 PM followed by a celebration of life at Ridout's Valley Chapel, 1800 Oxmoor Road, Birmingham, AL.
