

Dick passed away peacefully in his home surround by family on June 11, 2016. He was born in Topeka, KS and moved to Birmingham in 1955 where he graduated from Shades Valley HS in 1957. He completed his BS at The University of Alabama where he graduated with honors in 1961. Dick then went onto Medical School at UA and graduated in 1965. He completed his Internship at Carraway Methodist Hospital in 1966 & went on to complete his Residency at The Mayo Clinic in 1969. As a certified Internal Medicine Doctor he joined the Air Force as a flight surgeon, then had a successful career practicing medicine at Carraway from 1972-1995. In his "retirement" he worked as Medical Director of many different healthcare firms where he mentored, taught and befriend all those he encountered. He always kept busy with his many toys & activities including: flying airplanes, riding motorcycles with his "gang", buzzing the neighborhood on his Segway or just playing practical jokes on his friends. Dick is survived by his wife of 54 yrs Lynda A. McLaughlin who he met in college & married during medical school. He is also survived by his 2 daughters: Shelley (Pete) Rohwer and their children Emma & Eric and Kelley (Brian) Parnell and their children Hannah & Carter; his sister Dona Drummond & nephews Todd and Jeremy Drummond and their families; his in-laws Tommy & Donna Anderson and neice Amy & nephew Craig Anderson and family; and cousin Gary & Jackie Johnson and families. The visitation is set for Thurs., June 16, 2016 from 4-5PM at Canterbury UMC and followed by a 5 PM memorial service at Canterbury UMC. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the church.
