

Rick Ray age 60 of Homewood, AL, passed away at his home, surrounded by his family on January 18, 2014, after a courageous 8 year battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsey (PSP). Rick was born in Missouri and raised in Tuscumbia, AL. Following his graduation from Deshler High School he attended Auburn University and graduated in 1973. He moved to Birmingham where he had a very successful sales career in the communications industry where he received much recognition and many awards over his career. At Auburn he was an officer in Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and other school organizations and honor societies. He was raised in the Methodist faith and joined the church at a young age. He enjoyed golf at Eagle Point, Auburn sports, especially football, and Atlanta Braves' baseball. He is predeceased by parents, Aubrey David Ray and Ottie Gean Ray, and his brother Aubrey David Ray II. Survivors include his wife of 25 years Kathryn Ray, 3 sons, Jeremy Matthew Ray (Danielle), Michael Allen Ray, and Christopher Adam Peoples (Melissa), brother in law, Joe Billingsly, sister in law, Laura Ray, nephew, Joshua David Ray (Amy) and daughters Emma Grace and Mary Claire, and the mother of his sons Susan Green, and other family and close friends. A memorial service will be Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at 2:00 at Ridout's Valley Chapel in Homewood, followed by a reception. The family would like to express a special thank you to Kensley Kennedy, Rebecca Johnson, Rolanda Goodson, and Sandra Powell for the loving care that they gave to Rick over the past month and to New Beacon Hospice. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations be given to the West-Homewood Station 3 Fire and Rescue Rick Ray Donation Account at any Wells Fargo Bank Branch or The Cure PSP foundation Mayo Clinic, 30 East Padonia Road, Timonium, MD 21093.
