Robert Patton Smith

Robert Patton Smith died on Saturday, April 19, 2014. He was born on October 15, 1952, the son of Robert McDavid Smith and Eugenia Wimberly Smith Selby. He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his sister, Genie Smith Edwards (Bill), brother Felton W. Smith (Carolyn) and nephews Robert Smith Hunter and James E. Whitley, Jr. (Jennifer). Pat graduated from Mountain Brook High School, Auburn University and UAB School of Business. After college he had career as an operations and customer service manager with Gates Rubber Company in Denver and later returned to Birmingham to be close to his family. For the past many years he was employed with RayPress Corporation. Pat had numerous interests during his life and his passion during his latter years was golf, which he played at Chase Lake and Riverchase County Clubs. A man who didn't suffer fools lightly, Pat was loved by all who knew him well. He will always be remembered for his honesty, unselfishness, resourcefulness and great loyalty. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday April 22nd at Johns-Rideout's Valley Chapel, 1802 Oxmoor Road in Homewood at 12:00 Noon in the Chapel with visitation from 11:00 to 12:00 in the Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family will appreciate memorials being made to a charity of choice.
