

In the early morning on Sunday, the 17th of July, 2022, Sammy Edward Lorino passed away peacefully at the age of 85. Born the 11th day of December, 1936, Sam was a pillar of the Italian-American community of Ensley. A youth sports coach and general sports enthusiast, he could often be found cheering on the Alabama Crimson Tide or the New York Yankees.
He loved his family fiercely and never met a stranger. This was evident from the majority of his career at Mazer Lumber and Supply Company in Avondale. Sam was a devout catholic and member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Ensley and Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Homewood.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Annie Spina Lorino, his brother Paul “Peanut” Lorino, and his son Andy Lorino. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Frances Marie Cantavespre Lorino; his brother Bernard (Virginia) Lorino; his sons, Paul (Joni) Lorino, Charlie (Lisa) Lorino and Sammy Jr (Laurie) Lorino his grandchildren; Brian Lorino (Heather), Christina Schutt (Michael), Ann Morgan (Robert), Brooke Lorino, Sammy Lorino III (Rachael), Dillion Ray, and Alex Lorino. Also left to treasure his memory are his great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many cousins.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday the 20th of July, 2022, beginning at ten o’clock in the morning with the funeral Mass following at eleven o’clock in morning at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church located at 1728 Oxmoor Road in Homewood. The committal service will immediately follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
