Sara Moody

Sara graduated from Louisville Collegiate School in 1968 and Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, VA in 1972. After graduating college, she moved to Charlottesville, VA, where she met her future husband, Tommy Moody.

Tommy and Sara were married on May 24, 1975 and moved to Birmingham, AL where they raised their two daughters and many rescue pets. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and a dedicated volunteer. She regularly lent her time and resources to St. Mary’s on the Highlands Episcopal Church, the Birmingham Museum of Art, Birmingham Medical Alliance, Discovery Place, and the Mountain Brook School System. She also enjoyed working as an election clerk for local, state, and national elections at Mountain Brook City Hall. When not volunteering, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, reading, and traveling around the world.

Sara is survived by her husband of 50 years, Dr. Thomas Moody; two daughters: Sally Baker (Brad) & Susan Papapietro (Mauricio); six grandchildren: Maggie Baker Bundy (Tom), Allen Baker, Kathryn Baker, Lilly Papapietro, Thomas Papapietro, Reid Papapietro; her brothers, Mark Allen (Jackie) and Jim Allen (Missy), several nieces and nephews, and wonderful friends and neighbors.

Sara is preceded in death by her parents, Reid and Frances Allen, and her sister-in-law, Nancy Moody Vaught.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on Thursday, September 4th at 2:00 pm at St. Mary’s-on-the-Highlands Episcopal Church with a visitation immediately following.
