Sarah Jane Dodd of Vestavia Hills, AL passed away, Friday, April 15, 2016. Sarah was born in Sylvester, GA, on November 1,1951. She graduated from Worth County High School and earned her B.A. in Speech Therapy from Auburn University, where she was on the inaugural women's basketball team of 1971. She also holds a J.D. from Birmingham School of Law. Sarah was married to Hube Dodd for 11 years until his death on April 17, 2006. She enjoyed playing bridge with her "Bridge Buddies" club and playing tennis at Vestavia Hills Country Club, where she was a founding member of the FCCL Tennis Team. She was actively involved in her Garden Club and the DAR Princess Sehoy Chapter, where she served as Treasurer. In her lifetime, her legs pounded the tennis courts of the country club. As a girl, her feet donned tap shoes and she proudly wore an iridescent mermaid costume for her dance recital. Her brain absorbed the law while she raised two children as a single mom. Her arms swung her delighted kids when the family danced at the lake house on Friday nights. Her hands deftly "dumped" ingredients into containers for her favorite lowmaintenance recipes, better known as "dump recipes." Her womb carried two beautiful beings into this world. Her ears listened to sermons every Sunday, and her lips told us to be "prayerful, thankful and joyful." Before she left, she willed her body to do one final thing: to cradle her son's new baby girl. Sarah is survived by her brother, Joe Stoner (Jane) of Atlanta, GA, and sisters Rebecca Stoner Hatcher (Everett) of Birmingham, AL, and Rachel Stoner Rodgers (John) of Tampa, FL; her children by first husband Bart Hunt, Parker Hunt (Kerrie) of Denison, TX, and Rachel Hyink (Jon) of Auburn, AL; and her grandchildren, Olivia and Anni Hyink and Macie Jane Hunt. Visitation for Mrs. Dodd will be Monday, April 18,2016 from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M.followed by her funeral service at 11:00 A.M. at Ridout's Valley in Homewood, AL. Burial will be Tuesday at Oakland Cemetery in Waycross, GA.
In lieu of flowers Mrs. Dodd's family suggest that donations be made to the American Cancer Association or Mountain Brook Baptist Church.
