Thomas Clayton Bargeron

Thomas Clayton Bargeron II, age 89, went Home to be with the Lord on May 12, 2023, at his home in Birmingham, Alabama.

Tommy or “Pops”, as his grandchildren began to call him, was the 4th of 5 children born to Lionel Malcolm Bargeron and Julia Charlton Harman Bargeron in Savannah, GA. He lived the majority of his life in Birmingham but recently spent 15 years in Spanish Fort, AL, before moving back to Birmingham his final year of life. Growing up, while his older brothers were off fighting in WWII, he and his younger brother Charlton stayed home getting into all sorts of antics. Graduating from Shades Valley High School in 1951, he attended the University of Alabama where he was a member of DKE. He worked as Owner and President of Charles F. Wheelock & Assoc. for 43 years. Gifted in many areas, including his ability to build anything mechanical and fix any problem, he worked on his designs until recently when his cancer overtook him. Tommy & his wife of almost 48 years, Rita, cherished their years together, but perhaps most memorably, their RV adventures across the country. He loved playing golf in his younger years, was an avid reader, and enjoyed debating politics or theology.

Survived by his wife, Rita, children Janet Pittman Bargeron, Thomas (Tim) Clayton Bargeron III (Francesca), and Michelle Bargeron Taylor (Scott ), surviving brothers George Bargeron and Charlton Bargeron (BetteAnne), 7 grandchildren including Julian Bargeron (Cam), Chiara Bargeron, Scott Taylor Jr., Rachel Taylor, CJ Taylor, Tommy Taylor, & Benjamin Taylor and a great grandson, Clayton Julian Bargeron, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside Funeral service will be held at Elmwood Cemetery, 600 Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive, Birmingham, AL, Monday May 22 at 11 AM.
