Thomas Hall McLaughlin, Jr. of Vestavia Hills passed away April 27, 2015 after a brief illness.
Everyone who knew him will miss Tom for his wit, wisdom and counsel. His Southern & Scottish Heritage was very special to him. He was a spectacular husband of over 50 years, father and grandfather. Nothing made Tom more proud than the accomplishments of his family.
Tom attended the University of Alabama where he was a member of Pi Kappa Phi, Air Force ROTC and Pershing Rifles. While at the University he made life long friendships. ROLLTIDE!
Tom worked in the Mortgage Banking Industry for over 60 years.
He was an active member of the Masons for over 50 years. Tom was proud of his Lodge and all the good works they did for the children of the world.
Tom was a member of the United Methodist Church and held many positions with the laity of the church.
Mr. McLaughlin is survived by his four children and five grandchildren: Lea McLaughlin Harkins (Wes), T. H. McLaughlin, III , Mildred McLaughlin Atchison (Knowles), Joan McLaughlin Page (Jim), Erin Lea Harkins, Amy Harkins Byers (Jonathan), Knowles Youngblood Atchison, Jr., Remington Hall Atchison and Trent McIntyre.
Visitation will be held Thursday, April 30 at 6:00PM at Ridout’s Valley Chapel. The Funeral Service will be held in the Rutland Memorial Chapel at Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church on Friday, May 1 at 10:00AM. A reception will begin at 8:45am prior to the Service in the Narthex of the Chapel. Graveside services will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations be made in his memory toThe Shriners Hospital, The Birmingham Zoo or the American Heart Association.
