

Mr. Goodwyn attended the University of Alabama and received his law degree from Birmingham School of Law. He served as a captain in the United States Army in the Philippines and Japan during World War II. As an executive of the predecessor companies of El Paso Corporation and SONAT, Inc., he also served as a Director of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta. He was a member of Meadow Brook Baptist Church and a member of Shoal Creek Country Club where he enjoyed playing golf for many years.
He was the devoted husband for 62 years to Mary Goodwyn until her death in 2007. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Dorcie Jewel Goodwyn and Elaine I. Goodwyn, his brothers and their wives, Leon B. Goodwyn (Julia), Otis James “Joe” Goodwyn (Mary), and Edward T. Goodwyn (Ruth), his daughter-in-law, Casey Setser Goodwyn, and his granddaughter, Leigh Cart.
He is survived by his daughter, Janet Goodwyn Cart of St. Simons Island, Georgia, and his two sons, William Vincent Goodwyn of Harpersville, Alabama, and Robert Andrew Goodwyn (Barbara) of Atlanta, Georgia. He leaves behind seven grandchildren, Robert Goodwyn, Julie Goodwyn, Ben Cart, David Goodwyn (Shelby), Joseph Goodwyn, Tristan Davis and Sam Setser, and his great-granddaughter, Reagan Goodwyn.

A private family service will be held at Meadow Brook Baptist Church with Pastor Chris Jones officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Meadow Brook Baptist Church, 4984 Meadow Brook Road, Birmingham, AL 35242.
