

Viola Spears Yeager, age 92, of Birmingham, Alabama passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2014. Mrs. Yeager was born on September 20, 1921 in Lawrence County, Alabama to Gideon Spears and Della Holt Spears. She graduated from Jefferson County High School, Birmingham, Alabama in 1940. She was an active member of Central Baptist Church in Tarrant City where she met the love of her life, George Ray Yeager. Their life together is a story of love, dedication, sacrifice, and unselfishness. She was an active member and Christian mentor to many people at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church where she was a member for over 60 years. She had a life-long passion for service to God and to others. She worked in various jobs throughout her life as a financial secretary.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, George Ray Yeager and her great-grandson, Graham Robert Rigsby. Mrs. Yeager is survived by her two daughters, Mrs. Rita (Harold) Bube of Birmingham, Mrs. Linda (Davis) Thornbury of Montgomery, Alabama; a son, George R. (Cathy) Yeager II of Birmingham; and a very special niece, Linda Gayle Robinson of Frisco, Colorado. Also by 10 grandchildren: Grey (Ruth Ellen) Yeager, Ryan Yeager, Dana (Chase) Hatcher, Holly (Dwayne) Rigsby, Kimberly (Mark) Pretnar, Chad (Shanie) Bube, Kevin (Amy) Bube, Jonathan (Katie) Thornbury, Drew (Hannah) Thornbury, Donald (Sarah) Thornbury; and twelve great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 20, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Ridout’s Valley Chapel, 1800 Oxmoor Road, Homewood, AL 35209. There will be a funeral service on Friday, February 21, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at Concord Baptist Church, Cullman, Alabama with Donald Thornbury officiating.
