
W. Rodney Ott, MD. age 88, of Birmingham, Alabama, passed away after a long illness on February, 26, 2023. He was born on February 5, 1935, in Goldsboro, NC to Willard Agnew and Hazel Millicent Knight Ott.
Dr. Ott attended Howard College (Samford) and went on to further his education at The University of Alabama where he did his residency in Otolaryngology. He also served his country as Captain in the United States Air Force. In 1958, he married his loving wife, Barbara Jean Whitfield. Dr. Ott was a supportive and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He spent his life in selfless service to others through his medical practice. Dr. Ott practiced Otolaryngology from 1968 to 1999.
He had a passion for helping others and also enjoyed his time as a member of Mountain Brook Baptist Church. Dr. Ott was a member of the Medical Association State of Alabama, International Club for Rolls Royce, Ferrari Club of America, and Aircraft Owner and Pilot Association.
He is preceded in death by his father, Willard Agnew Ott and his mother, Hazel Millicent Ott. Dr. Ott is survived by his wife, Barbara Ott, Birmingham, AL; daughter, Rhonda Katz, Chattanooga, TN; sons, Rodney Ott, Jr., Birmingham, AL, and Ronald Ott (Diahn), Knoxville, TN; granddaughter, Rebecca McGann (Michael),Chattanooga, TN; grandsons, MSgt. Matthew Katz (McKinley) Misawa, Japan, Derek Ott, Knoxville, TN, Joshua Ott, Knoxville, TN; great-granddaughters, Giulietta Murphy, Addison Katz, and Lillian Katz.
The family would like to thank special caregiver, Mrs. Robin Reynolds.
Dr. Ott's family suggest memorials be made to Mountain Brook Baptist Church.
The family will have a private graveside service, with military honors, at Forest Hill Cemetery.
