
William C. Farrell, Jr, age 83, of Birmingham, AL, passed away on October 2, 2011. He lived his entire life in the Birmingham area, graduating from Phillips High School, and receiving an Agricultural Engineering degree from Auburn University in 1951. He was a member of Kappa Alpha Order. An Army veteran, Mr. Farrell served during the occupation of Japan after WWII. He was a 2nd generation member of the First United Methodist Church of Birmingham.
He retired from Stockham Valves and Fittings after a life long career as a mechanical engineer. He was an active member of The American Society of Mechanical Engineers and served on Codes and Standards Committees serving the Valve and Fittings Industry, as well as a very dedicated father for his four children. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Vann Farrell, daughter-in-law, Kathie May Farrell, and parents, Grace Miller Farrell and William C. Farrell.
Mr. Farrell is survived by his three sons, William C. Farrell, III (Karen), James Vann Farrell, and David Taylor Farrell (Martha); daughter, Catherine Vatalaro (Bobby); sister, Grace Farrell Lewis (James); sister-in-law, Jane Vann; brother-in-law, Warren Vann (Judy); five grandchildren, William Vann Farrell, Megan May Farrell, Cameron Vatalaro, Sydney Vatalaro, and Emma Grace Farrell; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2011, at 12:00 at the First United Methodist Church of Birmingham. The family will receive friends before the service from 10:30-12:00 at the church. Burial in Elmwood Cemetery.
