Zona Virginia Dixon Odum

ODUM, ZONA VIRGINIA DIXON of Mountain Brook, AL passed away peacefully, Wednesday, April 10, 2013. She was born in Sycamore, Pennsylvania on May 5, 1916. She graduated from Fairfield High School. Mrs. Odum worked as a bookkeeper at Odum Lumber Co. where she met her future husband. She was a member of Central Church of Christ in Birmingham for 36 years and has been a member of Mountain. Brook Baptist Church for 32 years. She was predeceased by her husband Travis Howard Odum and her parents, Mary Bates Dixon and Grover Cleveland Dixon. Mrs. Odum is survived by three daughters; Carol Odum McGill Perez (Buddy); Judy Odum Sisson (John) and Elaine Odum Morgan (Perry). Other survivors include her grandchildren Kenneth Howard McGill (Deanna), Diane Sisson Nickolson (Jon), Beverly McGill Shaffer (Robert), Cynthia Sisson Rice (Alex), Shelley Morgan Anthony (Jimmy), James Perry Morgan, Jr., Travis Clinton Morgan (Elizabeth Mullins); 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. A private family graveside service will be held on Sat., April 13, at Elmwood Cemetery followed by a memorial celebration at 1:00 p.m. at Mountain Brook Baptist Church, Dr. Doug Dortch officiating. The family will receive friends in Hudson Hall immediately following the memorial celebration. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donation, in Mrs. Odum’s memory, to Mtn. Brook Baptist Church or your favorite charity. The family wishes to express special thanks for the special care given by her aides, Anniece Anderson, Betty Kyne, and Jacinta Kahira.
