

Anna Louise Cooley, 85, of Homosassa, FL died peacefully at her home on March 20, 2017, with her loving family by her side. A native of White Plains, New York, she was the beloved only child of the late Hermann and Luise (Bodeker) Lemke. After graduating Fredonia State Teacher’s College of NY in 1953, Anna married her Briarcliff High School sweetheart, John “Jack” Cooley, at the completion of his 4-year tour of duty with the U.S. Air Force. They were married at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hawthorne NY, where she had served as organist since the age of 16. She enjoyed her career in teaching and educational support at the elementary school level in Thornwood and Colonie NY and in Scarborough ME. In 1989 she and Jack retired to Sugarmill Woods, where she participated in many community activities, including Citizens on Patrol, Meals on Wheels, Ladies’ Bowling League, Sugarmill Chorale, Christian Women’s Group, Monday Morning Bible Study, weekly German and French classes, and Cancer Survivors Support Group. In her local church, she served for many years in the Chancel Choir, as a council representative, Steven Minister, communion preparer, and any volunteer work needed. Serving others was a true passion for her. In addition to her devoted husband of 63 years, Anna is survived by a son, James Cooley and his wife Deb of Orlando FL; and two daughters, Diane Mills and Sharon Cooley, both of Homosassa FL. A funeral service will be held at 10 o’clock on Thursday, March 30th at First United Methodist Church of Homosassa, with Rev. Kip Younger officiating and special music by the Chancel Choir. A reception at the church will follow. Private inurnment at The Fountains Memorial Gardens in Homosassa will take place at a future date. Arrangements are under the direction of Wilder’s Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Music Ministry of First United Methodist Church of Homosassa, 8831 W. Bradshaw St, Homosassa FL 34448.
