Donald Dodge Humphrey, age 86, died of complications arising from long term illness on Sunday, February 13, 2022. Donald was born on May 20, 1935 in Mineola, New York to parents Harold Humphrey and Julia Dodge. He moved from Medford, NY to Homosassa in 1994, following his retirement from the Long Island Lighting Company. Donald is survived by his loving wife Linda Humphrey, married June 5th, 1960; daughter Laura Hauth and son-in-law William; and sons Steven, and William Humphrey and daughter-in-law Deborah. He was a beloved grandfather to Thomas, William, granddaughter-in law Jaclyn, and Patrick Hauth; Lisa and James Humphrey; brother to Joan Clanfield and Harold Humphrey, as well as also being survived by nieces and cousins. He was an Army veteran, having served from 1954-1956 as part of the 899th Tank Battalion 4th Armor Group in Europe during the Cold War; then in the Active Reserves until 1962 after which he was honorably discharged.
Donald was a wonderful and loving father and grandfather. He enjoyed every moment spent with his grandchildren from the time they were born. He was known for his warmth, generosity, sharp wit, and great sense of humor. He was a compassionate man who often put the needs of others before himself and was well loved by all who came to know him. During his life, Donald voluntarily offered bountiful assistance to his local church and Boy Scouts when his children were young, and later, to Meals on Wheels, local Senior Centers, and Florida’s Forestry Registry program. He enjoyed supporting the American Legion organization, and Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, and was a man who respectfully flew and saluted the American flag with honor and gratitude. He enjoyed watching sports, movies, reading, fishing, the outdoors, and admiring wildlife; but most of all, times spent with family and friends. We will always remember him for his love of life, his devotion to his wife Linda, and all of us. He left a loving and positive imprint on all our hearts that we can carry forward.
Friends and family will be received on Tues., March 1, 2022 from 9:00 to 10:00 AM at Wilder Funeral Home, 4890 S.
