
Jan Daniel “JD” Uiterwyk of Homosassa, Florida passed away at home on December 16, 2021, with his family by his side. Jan was born April 1, 1944 in Amsterdam, Netherlands, of the late Jan Christiaan Uiterwyk and Maria Alberts Uiterwyk. He, along with his parents and brothers, immigrated to America in 1949, residing first in New York State, and then moving to Florida in 1954. Jan was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Jan’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to found J.D. Ship Management in 1971, located in Houston, Texas. Jan later joined his parents and brothers in the Uiterwyk Corporation, a maritime shipping company based in Tampa. Jan was an avid equestrian and co-founder of Stadium Jumping. Jan was also the developer of Cheval Golf and Country Club in North Tampa. Later Jan founded and was the principal of Gulf Coast Mortgage in Inverness, Florida. His generosity, kindness and huge heart was loved by all. Jan is survived by his wife, Hart Uiterwyk; brother Robert Uiterwyk; children Jan C. Uiterwyk (Kimberly), Christopher Uiterwyk (Devon), and Terrie Shibley (Kevin); stepdaughters Jessica Miller, Jillena Valdez (Nick) and Jacqueline Conley; along with twelve grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held at a later date at Myrtle Hill Memorial Park in Tampa, Florida. A Celebration Of Life will take place on Mon., Dec. 27, 2021 at 1:30 P.M. at Jackson's Bistro, Bar and Sushi, 601 S. Harbour Island Blvd., Tampa, FL 33602.
