

Paul Holmes Owen, Jr., 80, passed away on Sun., Feb. 26, 2023 at home surrounded by his adored grandchildren, daughter and wife. Paul was born in New York and joined the United States Marine Corps to serve his country at the age of 18. After serving in the Marines, he graduated from Syracuse University (Go Orangemen!) with a BS Degree in Biology and Chemistry. After moving to Florida, he worked for CEMEX for 30 years; first as a plant chemist, then as a Technical Sales Supervisor where he worked on many unique projects, including rebuilding the Sunshine Skyway and repairing Lucifer the Hippo’s enclosure at the Homosassa Springs Attraction. He acquired many valued friends while working at CEMEX. At an early age he raced motocross then graduated to racing sailboats on this boats Haiku and Osprey. He was a member of the Windjammers Sailing Club and won many races, including the Michelob Cup and Clearwater Classic; all with the help of his extraordinary helmsman wife, Ginny. He later enjoyed cruising the West Coast of Florida and the Bahamas. Paul is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ginny; his daughter Morgan and his beloved grandchildren Aaron, Liam and Audrey. He is also survived by his brother Mark and his wife Debra; his mother-in-law Nettie and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves his furry companion Janie. Paul was preceded in death by his father and mother, and a host of critters, including Blackie, Savannah, and Kermie, the iguana. There will be a Celebration of Life for Paul at a later date. Military Honors will be given for Paul on Wed., March 29, 2023 at 12:30 P.M. at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida. Memorial contributions can be made in Paul’s name to Moffitt Cancer Center, 12902 USF Magnolia Drive, Tampa, FL 33612.
