William F. “Bill” Obermeier, Jr., 81, of Homosassa, FL, passed away on Sat., Dec. 6, 2025 at his home surrounded by loved ones. A native of Philadelphia, PA, he was born May 12, 1944 to William F., Sr. and Dolores (Kolbe) Obermeier, the eldest of four children. Bill, as he was fondly known by all, served his country honorably and proudly in the U.S. Navy. Now, to his cousins who lived in the neighborhood in Philly, Bill was known fondly as "Worm" because he was so skinny. That stuck with him and his cousins for his entire life.
Bill had lived in Citrus County for about 35 years. He previously owned a successful Yellow Pages Advertising Company in Florida for many years. In his next career, Bill worked for Fuji Films as Key Accounts Manager for 8 years and District Manager for the Southern US District for 7 years. After several years with Fuji, Bill came to the realization that his Father was showing signs of Alzheimer's. So being the loving, caring son that he was, he and his loving wife at the time, Dee, (deceased) took his "Pops" into their home for 6 1/2 years. Bill would bring Pops to work with him, take him on cruises, and he and Dee both took care of Pops until the end of his life.
Bill was a known and loved parishioner of St. Benedict Catholic Church and member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post #155, and the West Citrus Elks Lodge. He was also an avid golfer, and a fine one to boot. He began at a very young age riding his bike into an exclusive golf course, Pine Valley Golf Club in Pine Hill, New Jersey. He started shagging balls and ended up a caddy for many, many years. It was there that Bill learned the skills to become quite the golfer. Bill also loved Horse Racing. He would watch a race on TV while he was watching another on his phone or laptop. Once, a $2.50 bet won him over $5,000. After owning a bar for many years when he was younger, he became a pool shark. He could run a table in nothing flat! He also loved casinos, playing slot machines and card games; specifically Texas Hold 'Em. He once got a Royal Flush earning him $5800! Cruise travel was his favorite way to vacation. After all, there were casinos on the ships! He cruised all over the Caribbean and many places in Europe and the British Isles. And owning a travel business with his surviving wife, Terri, gave him a good excuse to do so.
A perfect day for Bill Obermeier would be the following: Up early to meet the guys for breakfast before 18 holes of golf. Following golf, a pitcher of beer and a sandwich or burger were in order. Once home, it was naptime to sleep off the fun morning. In the afternoon, the Philadelphia Eagles or the Tampa Bay Bucs were playing football. In the evening, Bill would make a gourmet meal for his wife, doing everything. She didn't have to lift a finger. Shrimp cocktail, steaks, mushrooms, baked potato with a little salad. He didn't want to eat too much salad. It might ruin his dinner! All coupled with a nice bottle of Pinot Noir. And at some point during or after dinner, he would get a video call from his grandsons, MJ and Nico. That always brought a smile to his face any day. Next, he and Terri would curl up on their love couch with a perfect Manhattan (specially made by Bill) and watch a movie. And halfway through the movie, Bill would clean up the kitchen and insist that Terri remain seated and relax. He was the perfect man, husband, friend and companion. He always loved taking care of everyone else, especially loved ones.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Frank. Bill is survived by his loving wife, Terri Obermeier of Homosassa, son Bill Obermeier (Mary), Palm Beach Gardens FL; son Mike Obermeier (Deserae), Sevierville, TN: son James Michael Obermeier, Michigan; grandchildren MJ and Nico Obermeier, Sevierville, TN; Shelby Michener (Kyle) Tarboro, NC and Susan and James Obermeier; great granddaughter Savannah Michener, Tarboro, NC; brother Carl Obermeier (Barbara) and sister Dolores DiMona (Nick), both of Bluffton SC.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tues., Jan. 6, 2026 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Crystal River,
with Fr. Richard Stradomski, Celebrant. Military Honors will follow at 12:30 P.M. at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida with American Legion Post #155 rendering the honors.
