
William F. Obermeier, Sr., 89, of Homosassa, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013 at Hospice House in Lecanto. A native of Philadelphia, PA. and formerly of Erial, NJ, he was born Oct. 7, 1924 to William G. and Johanna (Redmond) Obermeier, one of two children. Mr. Obermeier was a WWII U.S. Navy veteran from 1943 to 1946, serving in the Pacific and African theaters. He was a 35 year employee of the Reading/Conrail Railroad, serving as a car inspector and also was a volunteer firefighter with the Erial, New Jersey Fire Dept. He moved to Homosassa 25 years ago from New Jersey. Bill, as he was known to many, loved hunting and pursued this passion especially in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania. Mr. Obermeier was a parishioner of St. Thomas The Apostle Catholic Church, Homosassa; a member of Loyal Order of Moose and served in the Citrus County Crime Watch in Homosassa. In his later years he resided in the loving care of his oldest son Bill and his wife Dee in Sugarmill Woods while battling Alzheimer’s disease. In addition to his son Bill Obermeier, Jr. (wife Dee) of Homosassa, he is survived by son Frank Obermeier (wife Carol), Magnolia, NJ; daughter Dolores DiMona (husband Nicholas), Beverly Hills and son Carl Obermeier (wife Barbara), Erial, NJ; grandsons Bill (wife Mary), Bluffton, SC; Jim, Hudson, FL; Michael (wife Deserea), W. Palm Beach; Frank, Wilmington, DE; Ron (wife Toni), Moorestown, NJ; Brian, Somerdale, NJ; Mark, Erial, NJ; Scott (wife Natalie), Williamstown, NJ; seventeen great grandchildren; four nephews and five nieces. Mr. Obermeier was preceded in death by his wife Dolores in 1980 and a sister, Claire Civatte. Memorial Mass will be held on Sat., Dec. 21, 2013 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Thomas The Apostle Catholic Church, Homosassa, with Fr. Ronald Marecki officiating. Friends will be received at Wilder Funeral Home from 9:00 to 10:15 A.M. followed by Patriot Guard Riders escort to St. Thomas. Interment will be private.
