William Richard “Bill” Williamson, 91, of Homosassa, Florida, passed away peacefully after a life lived to the fullest. Known to many as “Radio Bill,” he was a cornerstone of the radio industry for 68 years, mentoring countless colleagues until the time of his passing.
Born in 1935 in Bloomington, Indiana, to Anna Mae Higgins and Comer Grady “Slim” Williamson, Bill was a standout athlete. A High School All-American football player and two-time Indiana State High Jump Champion, he continued his athletic and academic journey at the University of Colorado.
In 1954, Bill met the love of his life, Alice Norris. They married in August 1956 and shared 69 devoted years together. In 1999, they settled in Homosassa, where Bill became an active member of the First United Methodist Church, the Rotary Club, and the Sugarmill Woods golf community.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Dottie Williamson; his brother, Hank Higgins; and his son, Larry Williamson.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Alice; daughters Ellen (Tim) Schwarm of Ohio and Janice Williamson of New York; sister Dee (Tom) Hawley; and grandchildren Holt Schwarm, David Williamson, and Alexandra Covert.
In lieu of mourning, the family asks that you celebrate Bill’s legacy by enjoying the things he loved: a round of golf, a well-tended yard, and time spent with family.
