

brief illness, on June 15, 2015 at Kina Ole Estate Kaneohe, Hawaii. He was born November 18,
1920 son of Angelo and Louise (Mastroianni) Coppola. He graduated Lewis High School in 1939
and Laurel Business College in 1941. Upon graduation he headed to Washington D. C. and
joined the State Department as a junior clerk. His Civil Service career was interrupted when war
broke out. As part of the of the "Great Generation" Alfred enlisted into the U. S. Navy and
served in the Pacific Theater. After he was discharged he returned to the State Department and
was assigned to the newly established Agency for lnternational Development (USAID) branch.
For the next thirty years, from Taiwan, China to Bangkok Thailand to Seoul Korea to Saigon
Vietnam Alfred called the Far East home. Alfred enjoyed playing bridge at the Elk's Club in
Waikiki and Mahjong with his many friends especially Rooney and Lily Chen. Alfred was
predeceased by his sisters Lucia and Evelyn Cano, his two brothers Albert and Joseph. Alfred
leaves his two loving sisters Mary Zimbardi of East Haven, and Edith Pelosi and husband Libby
of Guilford along with several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Rooney and Lily Chen for their assistance and support during Alfred's illness.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Thomas Church 99 Bristol St. Southington, CT on July 24, 2015 at 11:00 AM
burial with military honors will be in St. Thomas Cemetery. ln lieu of flowers donations can be
made to the Maryknoll Fathers & Brothers, P. O. Box 302, Maryknoll, NY L0545-0302 lt is the
families wish the people go directly to the church. Della Vecchia Funeral Home 211 N. Main St.
