

Alice was the cherished youngest child of the late Katelina and Tago Roe. She was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her sisters Sei Bond and Mary Mansfield, and her brothers Laupula Roe, Johnny Roe, and Maea Loe. Alice will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her surviving siblings: Fia Tiololo, Harry Cavallis, Jimmy Cavallis, Daisy Neubig, from a young age, Alice's love for God was unwavering, and her days always began and ended with prayer. She passed down her deep faith to her children and grandchildren through her quiet, constant example. After moving to Hawaii, Alice married a Marine by the name of Stephen Johnston, and together they shared a life full of adventure and travel, raising four children: Stephen (Mary), Kathleen (Jeff), Vincent (Tracy), and Jimmy (Blossom). Later, in California, Alice met Joe Curry and had a daughter, Alisia (Henry). Upon returning to Hawaii, she met Bill Burgess, and they welcomed their youngest daughter, Laura (Jantz).
Alice was a woman of immense strength and unwavering determination. She worked tirelessly to create a better life for her children, starting with a humble beginning selling Tupperware in Florida. Her journey then led her to a distinguished career as a city inspector for the City of Compton.
With a heart deeply committed to caregiving, Alice followed her passion by attending nursing school and earning her certification as a Certify Nursing Assistant. For over twenty (20) years, she devoted herself to providing compassionate care for the elderly, always going above and beyond to ensure their well-being. Her commitment to others was evident in every aspect Of her life, even beyond her professional role. When two of her patients could no longer stay with their families, Alice opened her own home to them, offering a safe and loving environment, not only shelter but love and a place of belonging. Her legacy Of selflessness, compassion, and determination will forever be remembered.
Alice shared a deeply unique and meaningful bond with each of her twenty-five grandchildren: Jordan Johnston, Tara Salinas, Kathleen Fierro, Stephen Johnston Jr., Brandon Johnston, Angel Salinas, Samuelu Johnston, Taisha Silas, Kai Johnston, James Johnston Jr., Donoven Johnston, Jazelle Batalona, Clayton Scott, Allison Johnston, Blajh Johnston, Vincent Johnston Jr. (Buddy), Elijah Johnston (Puka), Jantz Batalona (Buddha), Jentzen Batalona, Kaleb Johnston (Koa), Javen Johnston, Presages Johnston, and her thirteen great-grandchildren, all of whom loved her deeply. She also held a special place in the hearts of her many nieces and nephews, and her close relationship with her surviving siblings remained an important part of her life.
A funeral service for Alice will be held Wednesday, April 30, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Ballard Family Moanalua Mortuary-Honolulu, 1150 Kikowaena St, Honolulu, Hawaii 96819.
