She received her Bachelor of Science from Greeley, Colorado Teachers College in education where her first assignment was at a high school in Waipahu as a Science and PE teacher. She retired from the Hawaii State Educational System in 1985 after 35 years.
She spent her retirement years with her husband, Sai Chung, entertaining at various senior centers and retirement homes. She and Sai were quite the couple performing duets--he on the guitar and singing and she strumming effortlessly on the ukulele. After Sai's passing in 2002 (he was 94), she spent her time playing bridge, knitting/crocheting , and visiting friends and relatives in California. She spent the last 8 years living at the Kahala Nui Retirement Center in Honolulu.
She is survived by four children--Sharon Ching Wong (spouse-Wally), Coralie Ching Kop (spouse-Steven), Byron Ching and Francis Chung (spouse-Sonya), seven granchildren and eight great-granchildren.
Bernice was a vibrant, fun-loving, and charismatic woman. She had style and we will miss her presence very much for many years to come. You may contact Coralie Kop at [email protected] or at 2525 Malama Pl., Honolulu, HI 96822
