

EDWARD “EDDIE” DADING TORRES, SR., age 89, of Waianae, passed away May 26, 2011 at his residence. Born in Puunene, Maui, to Bruno Torres and Tomasa Caloscosan, he was a retired custodian for Daly City County in California and the Waianae Elementary and High Schools. He was also an accomplished musician on the piano, organ, string bass, guitar, and an ukulele virtuoso. He always carried his ukulele with him and played it wherever he went. In 2001, his album was nominated in the Best Senior Album category at the Na Hoku Hanohano Awards. He was a vocalist and musician for the United Visayan Club, a member of the musical group Hookipa that played at the Honolulu International Airport, greeting the arriving tourists. He was also a signer for New Hope Farrington and Nanakuli Churches.
He is survived by his wife, Pastora P. Torres; sons, Edward, Jr., Timothy, Gregory, Kenneth Torres; Roger Tapac; William, Randal, Derrick “Rick” and Leroy Maglinti; daughters, Linda J. Perez, Bernadette Haggette, Teresa “Inca” Bissonette, Debra M. Torres, Gerrie Fasteen; 14 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, 54 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation 10-11:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at Borthwick Mortuary-Mauka Chapel; service 11:30 a.m.; burial 3 p.m. at Hawaiian Memorial Park Cemetery. Family requests Aloha attire.
