So sorry to hear of your loss. To this day I had vivid memories of the times I went to your home in Hong Kong for your birthday parties .... there's so much food on the table and the fun and games we had.

Hope you're taking care of yourself Joan, although I haven't kept in touch, I always remember our times in UPS and Niwa house, and the trip we went on driving cross country.

I will remember 12-Tai-Paw as a strong warrior princess.  She was a very honest, gentle, generous, righteous, athletic, resilient, artistic soul.  I would always look forward to visits at her house.  While munching on the scrumptious mangos or buttery avocados from her yard, she would show me how to string beads and eventually turn them into intricately crocheted necklaces.  Just as easily as she could turn a pile of beads into a beautiful necklace, 12-Tai-Paw could play a mean game of mah-jong.  ;)
I will miss these visits. . . but will always carry these precious memories close to my heart.  May you rest in peace, 12-Tai-Paw.

We will miss Elsie, our 12Paw dearly. . She is our inspiration!  I looked forward to visit her in Honolulu each year and listened to the stories of her life. . Her athletism as a teen in the basketball court prepared her well as the Tennis Star in Hong Kong.  Besides collecting all these trophies in sports, she was an ultimate chef!  Extremely skillful and creative! I could still remember the taste of her walnut soup and avocado ice cream!  And needless to say, everyone knows that she was a talented crafter. . We will treasure all the gifts she made for us.

We are indeed saddened by the loss of your mom. However, we are comforted by the fact that she has led a highly fulfilling life. We are certain 12 Sook has been eagerly awaiting her arrival and have since had a few rounds of tennis already. Nevertheless, she shall be dearly missed.

I have childhood memories of visiting 12 paw and gung at their home in HK and feeling special when I saw my photo pinned up amongst those of her family.  I also remember her taking us to CRC swimming and telling us modestly of her tournament experience and wins, and I was thinking out loud how cool is that woman.  And more recently when we visited Honolulu, sitting in her backyard catching up, talking, enjoying home grown mangoes; and especially for her description of climbing down the ladder to clear boulders (the size of Colorado) blocking the creek running through her backyard.  She was then only in her 80s and I was thinking out loud again what a remarkable woman.
That's how I remember 12 paw, always caring, always full of life and vigor.   I miss you but am sure that you are now reunited with 12 gung and my parents as well, living a much better and eternal life.

I am sorry for your loss. I hope today you will be comforted by family and friends.  I enjoyed the few times I got to visit Auntie Elsie in Hawaii.  She always had a smile on her face and a spring in her step.  I thought it was cute seeing her and Uncle CS back to back watching their own TV shows with separate headphones.  Back then I was a teenager and didn't understand the beauty in that and now that I've been married for 13 yrs.. I get it!

I have known our beloved 12 Paw, Elsie Loke, ever since I was born.  She was my hero, she could drive (she drove us to Victoria Park to play, South Bay to swim); she threw fun birthday parties; she played the piano and she sang.  She was a super woman. She was the Hong Kong
Female Tennis Champion for several years back in the 1960s; yet she was so humble of her fame and success.
We re-connected with her in 2005; and had made Honolulu a "must stop" when we took our Hawaiian vacations the subsequent years. Again, she was a woman of many talents. . . we were always amazed at the various crafts (necklaces, bags, wallets etc) she made. She would design and made her own clothes; and she cooked healthy dishes.  We exchanged emails; she frequently forwarded me interesting articles; and we had lengthy phone conversations.... which I will dearly miss! Visits to Honolulu will never be the same anymore . .
Rest in peace, 12 Paw, you are forever in our hearts and in our daily lives. We are using the bags and wallets; wearing the necklaces and the beautiful shawl and housecoat you made!
I will treasure them dearly.

Farewell, my dear sixth sister. I will always remember being in our home in Beijing at dusk and waiting for supper. Somewhere in another room, you were playing Chopin on the piano. As a young boy, I found and loved the true peace and tranquility of the moment. You were unique in our large family to play the piano and much later in life to become a tennis champion because you were born with the talent. How can I forget the good times I had with you and CS in Hong Kong fishing and eating fried spring chickens at a hole-in-the-wall place. With a big smile, you always had plenty of things to talk about and were interested in a multitude of subjects. Mary and I were fortunate to have spent the better part of a day with you recently and did not realize that it would be our last get together. After receiving this picture taken at your garden, you wrote me that it was the first time that a photo was taken of just the two of us. I thought that this comment was extremely perceptive in hindsight. Our thoughts and sincere condolences to Joan, Victor and Yvonne. Love, Tung

We are so very sorry to learn of Auntie's passing. Unfortunately this winter we are in Miami Beach and not Honolulu, and therefore missed seeing her one more time.

As you know, your mom and dad were great friends of my mom and dad, and in later years when we started wintering in Honolulu, we enjoyed their friendship too - the tennis, the mah jerk, the wonderful meals your mom made, our restaurant excursions, and just enjoying their company (and yours) in their house and garden. They were warm and gracious in welcoming us, and we shall miss them always. 

Our sincerest condolence and sympathy to you and the family. May you find comfort in knowing the esteem your mom was held by everyone, and the love she had for you.

Every now and again, in my psychotherapy work, when I want to explain to a patient that in a  loving, mutual and respectful relationship, the couple can always learn to compromise without having to feel disadvantaged or disgruntled and work out a win-win situation; I would cite the example of my aunt and uncle (Elsie and CS) in Honolulu who had different interests in their TV programs but want to spend time together in the same room. They worked out a perfect solution - they have their armchairs back to back, their respective TV's on opposite walls, one would watch her favorite serials and the other his favorite sports program. In the spirit of chivalry, CS would don headphones so as not to disturb Elsie's pleasure and concentration. They exemplified a harmonious couple who are always  willing give unstintingly to each other in a generous loving way. In Elsie's passing may their loving spirits be joined again and may their loving behaviour be passed on to all those who have heard their story and example and felt reassured and inspired. RIP Auntie. My sincere condolences to you and your family. I really miss the fun we were playing Mexican train with her in Hawaii home.

So sad to hear the passing of Ms Elsie but I will always remember Auntie as a lady full of life and love.

You and your mother were lucky to have each other and as you said, now she will join her tennis buddies and your beautiful Dad in heaven.

I hope that you are ok in this sad time of your life and please take care of yourself & PeaPea & the rest of Gung Tsai Hoi.

Please ask Auntie to give my dad a call.  He passed away February 23 last year, remember?  I have fond memories of your mom fondly from as far back as the Fontana Gardens days.  My condolence to you and your siblings.

Our condolence but I trust your mom had a good life surrounded by her lovely family, friends and tennis.  
I could still vividly remembered the time she helped massage my aching shoulder at your home in Fontana, It was painful indeed but felt great afterwards .... almost felt like it was just yesterday.
