
George was a proud graduate of the Class of 1947 from Mid-Pacific Institute and later the University of Hawaii. He retired as an LTC/0-5 in the U. S. Air Force; followed by a second career with the Hawaii Dept. of Education as a teacher at Castle High and Registrar at King Intermediate. George was a standout baseball player in his high school and college days, as well as softball player playing for Heeia Makule Club and MGI softball teams well into his 70’s.
George is survived by his wife of 73 years Lillian Higuchi Okihiro, son Dr. Glenn Okihiro (Lisa), daughters Lynn Nakagawa (Marvin), Lori Lau (Duane), Julie Park (Mike), and Denise Akamine (Jeffrey); 13 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.
The son of Keiichi and Shizue Okihiro, George was pre-deceased by siblings Dr. Michael Okihiro and Helen Sakamoto. He is also survived by sisters Grace Wilson and Elaine Fujisaka, and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 31st at Borthwick Mortuary, Mauka Chapel. Public visitation 10:00-1100 am. Service at 11:00am. Private burial will be held at a later date.
