James is survived by his wife Rochelle A. Ako; children James Ako, IV (Melissa), Justin (Dulce Upfold), Thomas (Julie Ventura), Wendell (Hylina Marcus) and Simone Ako (Curtis Stillito). He also leaves behind his mother Shirley Ako, brothers Chauncey (Faith), Thomas (Dorothy) and Kurtis Ako; sisters Charlene Ako and Gwendolyn Ako; step-son Garrett Montalvo; step-daughter Natica Montalvo; grandchildren Kamila Ako, Chad Kamealoha-Lupton, James Ako V, Lelend Ako, Imua Ako, Camorah Stillito, Camyleh Stillito, Ahlena Ako, Dustin Ako, Leonaidas Ako, Ari Ako, Makua Ako and Kaiulani Marcus; and stepgrandchildren Heighdyn Montalvo and Greiysyn Montalvo.
Services will be held on March 28, 2017 at St. Roch Church, 56-350 Kamehameha Hwy, Kahuku, HI 96731. Visitation 10 AM, Service 11:30 AM.
Inurnment will be held on March 30, 2017 at Hauula Cemetery, 54-271 Honomu St., Hauula, HI 96717 at 11:30 AM.
