In 1973, he moved to Honolulu, Hawai’i where he attended Roosevelt High School. He later graduated from the University of Hawai’i at Manoa in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and went on to dedicate 38 years of service to the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard.
A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Johnston was known for his gentle spirit and radiant smile. Diagnosed with ALS in 2018, he faced his illness with remarkable resilience, optimism, and love for his family and those around him.
Johnston Ma passed on January 21st, 2026, at the age of 66. His legacy and presence live on through his wife, children, grandchildren, family and friends.
