Lamont was born in Kalihi, Hawaii, and spent his formative years there, attending Farrington High School. He also enjoyed playing football at the Palama Settlement. At the age of 18, Lamont joined the United States Air Force, serving actively for two years and stationed at Hickam Air Force Base in Hawaii.
He worked as a Radio Mechanic and was honorably discharged in 1977 as an E2. Later in life, he pursued studies in the accounting field at Kapiolani Community College, driven by his love for numbers and a desire to utilize his education to support himself.
Lamont was known for his dedication to his friends and family. Despite facing challenges in life, he maintained a positive outlook and celebrated his Hawaiian culture, embodying the Aloha Spirit through his generosity and thoughtfulness. Lamont was funny; when he would “talk story”, he would always share it with intelligence, care, and his signature hearty laugh, which was as distinctive as a Hawaiian Santa Claus.
Lamont had a creative side and took pleasure in working with his hands. He delighted in crafting and gifting items to his family members, including Hawaiian canoes, known as waʻa, flowers made out of money, and intricately carved decorative art pieces. Lamont lived and loved wholeheartedly, and his contagious laughter will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. He will be deeply missed as a beloved brother, uncle, and friend, and we will forever cherish the memories of his love and laughter.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Lucille Figueroa, his father, Raymond Octavio, and three brothers, Sylvester Rivera, Robert Rivera, and Dueces Octavio. Lamont is survived by his sister, Lenora Rodriguez, and his nieces, Kimberly Anderson (Kelly), Raelynn Dorsey (Joe), Cheryl Tomisato (Dolan), Michelle Rivera (Sunshine), Arlene Richardson (Bryan), and Angie Rivera, along with his nephews, Ruben “Bully” Rivera (Napo'o) and Shawn Rivera (Abby), along with a host of cousins, great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends.
Lamont will be deeply missed as a beloved brother, uncle, and friend, and we will forever cherish the memories of his love and laughter.
