
She was born on June 12, 1944, in Kahuku, Hawai‘i, to Anamani Apiolefaga Tuia and Edith Liliu Alapa, whose love and legacy she carried proudly throughout her life.
Montez spent her childhood in Laie, Hi and San Francisco, CA, where she attended Mission High School, serving as Student Body President and graduating as valedictorian—a reflection of her sharp mind, determination, and commitment to excellence.
Montez built a remarkable and multifaceted career. She worked primarily in the travel industry, serving with distinction at Hawaiian Airlines and Polynesian Air, where she was admired for herprofessionalism, grace, and ability to connect with people from all walks of life. She also served the academic community as the Executive Secretary to the President of BYU–Hawaii, a role she held for many years. Later, she embraced entrepreneurship by founding Executive Secretarial Services in Honolulu, continuing to support local professionals and organizations with the same excellence that defined her entire career.
Music was one of her greatest joys. She had a special love for the piano and the organ, instruments through which she expressed both her faith and her spirit. Through her callings in the Church, she shared her musical talents with many. Uplifting, joyful, and spiritual sounds that was loved by the congregation and all those who attended.
Above all, Montez was fiercely proud of her family—especially her parents and her children, who were the center of her world.
Montez is survived by the #1 man in her life, Richard Yamauchi, and 7 of her 8 children: Anastasia Yamauchi, Dana (Manutagi) Yamauchi, Erna Victorian, Kapua (Corey) Aliimanuokai, Richard (Raylleen) Yamauchi, Shane Yamauchi, and Michael (Marie) Ottley.
She also leaves behind many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family members, and friends whose lives she touched with her love and kindness.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Anamani and Edith Tuia, and her beloved daughter, Michole Ottley.
Montez’s legacy of compassion, faith, and love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 55-630 Naniloa Loop Laie, HI 96762.
