In 1989, Ormal retired from Hawaiian Telephone Company but continued to work part-time at Aloha Stadium. In his spare time Ormal would enjoy walking down to the Ala Wai field to watch high school sports, read his newspapers and always watching Raider football. Everyone could recognize his signature hats for either the Raiders or St. Louis because Ormal almost never was seen without one of his hats.
On November 30, 2004 Ormal celebrated the arrival of his first great-grandchild, Mia Anne McCartney. Ormal loved singing songs with Mia as well as her shared enthusiasm for sports. On November 22, 2009 danced at the wedding of his grandson Jason to his high school sweetheart, Michellee Akiu although she had been a part of the family for many years.
