We are very privileged to have known Bob.  His warm and quiet demeanor hid the warrior that was deep inside,but wow, you could always tell the warrior was definitely there!  Bob almost never talked about his military experiences and accomplishments and did not have to to - his record of achievements told it all.  He was an incredible patriot and had a love of history and an unabiding respect and love for this country of ours.

When we got to know Bob back in 2000 when we moved to Hawaii full-time, we were truly blown away by his physical strength and zest for life.   He was busy rowing, scuba diving, taking underwater pictures, was an active member of the Fisheries Council, was teaching school as a substitute, was reading historical and other books, entertaining people at the house (he entertained; Tina cooked!) and traveling whenever he and Tina could get away.  We are so sorry that over the last four of five years that both Bob and Tina struggled so with health issues.

Bob was a very strong man.  He had the confidence to love and marry a strong woman like Tina - and we remember one of the last Valentine's Day parties we attended before we moved where he outshined all the guys with his romantic gesture of giving Tina a beautiful necklace for Valentine's  Day.

Bob had a love of life, love and pride of Tina and his family - he was truly a great man and will be missed by so many.

The one memory I recall most often is Bob sitting outside his tent in Africa early in the morning reading.  He looked so content and was truly enjoying all life had to offer.  

He will truly be missed by many who had the pleasure of calling him their friend.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

I had the pleasure of knowing Bob and diving with him when I lived in Kona. He was a great guy and I will miss him.

Bob was a true gentleman in every sense of the word.  He will be greatly missed.  His love of life and adventure, is a fond memory for all who knew him.  Tina, my deepest condolences, love and support through these times.

I miss my friend Bob and his enthusiasm for life.  Special memories include traveling with him and Tina to remote areas in Indonesia where Bob loved to dive.  Bob accomplished so much in his life, but most of all he honored his family and his country, he lived life to the fullest and he loved every minute. To say that Bob will be missed is an understatement.

While Bob is gone, he is certainly not forgotten! The life that he lived and led remains strong in our minds and spirits. Although John and I were 'late to the game,' Bob's work (and yours!!!) have been a guiding light for us as we continue to try in our small way to conserve yet a bit more of our beautiful coastline. I'm told it is a great honor for Bob to be buried at NMCP at Punchbowl. I would submit that it is a great honor to those already interred there to be joined by Bob Owens. It is rare to meet a man of his caliber. The world would be a better place if all our leaders and warriors had the depth of Bob's intellect and eduction. A glimpse at his personal library gives some indication of the range and breadth of his thinking. He was an insightful thinker, and a decorated American hero, yet one of the most humble people I have ever met. He lived more adventures than most people would dream of, but never bragged of his exploits,and you had to ask if you wanted his opinion on anything. I am grateful to have known him for a brief part of his remarkable life.

Bob and Tina have been wonderful neighbors for 10 years.  Bob took underwater pictures that were National Geographic quality.  We will miss Bob very much.  We send our deepest sympathies to Tina and to Bob's sons.

Tina: You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. Remember and rejoice in the memories you shared with Bob.

Bob and Tina were always an inspiration for me.  Their love for life, adventure, youthfulness, love of travel and especially their love for one another. I will always remember his obvious passion and happiness while sharing the chapter of his life with his beloved friend and adventurous traveling partner, his beloved wife, Tina. God Bless you both and all of your ohana through this journey.

I wish I could be there in person, but please know that my love is with you, Chris. After 38 years of friendship, you know that I ache for you and share your grief.  You and Bob are in my prayers.

I taught with Bob at Kamehameha and we often had lunch together sharing our love for family, history, and that my husband was retired military.  Since I am handicapped I will not be at the service in person but in my thoughts and prayers.
