Born and raised in Hanalei, Kauai, the 7th child and 4th son of the 10 children of Mun Dock and Kim Choy Say. Shorty was a very family oriented man who enjoyed the outdoors and nature. An avid ocean lover. He had a heart of gold for his family and friends; a loyal individual that one could always count on for anything.
He worked for the U.S. Federal Government in various areas with the last being a Purchasing Agent for the U.S. Marines. He was a member the Aloha Temple Shriners Motor Corp. at the height of their existence. They participated in parades all over the country and their close knit group was a family that got together every weekend.
He spent a great amount of time prior to his senior citizen years, spear diving (snorkeling mornings and night) and could free dive into the deep depths of the ocean, for hours at a time. He spent a great amount of time making crab traps to send to his brother in Hanalei to catch Samoan crab in the Hanalei River. He also worked at mending fishing nets and a lot of yard work.
During his early years when his children were young, he was a member of the Wahiawa Jaycee’s (when they held carnivals) and also a member of the Wahiawa Fishing Club.
