

Denise Lea Schmude, a beacon of warmth and resilience, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2025, in Hope Mills, North Carolina, at the age of 58. Born on June 10, 1966, in Los Gatos, California, Denise’s life was a testament to unwavering strength, compassion, and an adventurous spirit that touched all who knew her.
A graduate of the University of California, San Bernardino, Denise earned her B.S. in Environmental Health Science, a pursuit that reflected her deep-seated love for the natural world. After raising her beloved sons and supporting a career military husband during 25 years of service, Denise embarked on a new journey, becoming a licensed massage therapist and BodyTalk practitioner. Her work as a co-owner of a retail pet store, alongside her devoted husband, Dean, showcased her innate ability to create a nurturing environment, not only for animals but also for the customers who became family through her unwavering kindness and dedication.
Denise was diagnosed with cancer in 2022. She embarked on a new journey to heal herself through treatments and continuing her lifelong commitment to eating and living healthy. Despite this, Denise lost her battle with cancer but is now at peace and pain-free in the Heavenly Realm.
Denise is survived by her husband Dean Schmude, her sons Austin Schmude and Ian Schmude. Her death was preceded by her mother Dorothy Speck and father LeRoy Danos. Her remaining siblings include Rebecca, Rhonda, LeRoy, Dawn and Linette who all were able to reach out to her with love and support in her last days.
