George Robert Hodges, age 85 of Oak Lake Court, Raleigh died Thursday Evening, August 19, 2021 at his home.
George was born on February 22, 1936 in Harnett County the son of the late James G. Hodges and Bessie Neighbors Hodges and is preceded in death by a brother, James Worth Hodges and sisters, Mary Dell Hodges Honeycutt, Alice Lee Hodges Barnes Goodwin, Nina Mae Hodges Ritchie, Ala Pearl Hodges Rose, Ollie Augusta Hodges Williams and Ila Florence Hodges Wells. He is also preceded in death by a niece, Edith Carol Williams. He was born into a large family and was the baby of 8 children.
George graduated from Dunn High School and was in the high school band and played Trombone and drama club, he was nominated for the Morehead Scholarship. He graduated from Campbell University and then went on to UNC at Chapel Hill where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications. After college he went to Naval Officer’s Training School and graduated as an Ensign. He served in the U.S. Navy for over 5 Years with 4 of those years being overseas. He spent most of his Navy career in Scotland in the intelligence division for the US. He was discharge from the Navy in Scotland and then traveled through much of Europe as well as other countries. He bought his dream car a Jaguar XKE, while in Europe and had it shipped back to the states.
After much traveling he returned to the US and moved to Los Angeles and lived there for over 40 years working for CBS as a Program Analyst and even writing a script for the “Charlie’s Angels” TV series. He met many celebrities, he even dated Red Skelton’s daughter, Valentina. His last years in LA were spent as the maître d’ at the Los Angeles, “Hotel Bel-Air.”
In 2005 he retired and moved to Raleigh to be close to his family that was still living and there he did some volunteer work in the hospitals.
A Graveside Service will be held Monday Afternoon, August 23, 2021 at 3:00 pm at Hodges Chapel Church Cemetery with Rev. Nancy Dorman Honeycutt officiating.
He is survived by Nieces and Nephews: Jack R. Honeycutt, Linda Williams Suarez, Brenda Ritchie, Eddie Wells, Diane Williams and Cindy Hodges.
