

James William Ryder, born in Ware Massachusetts on January 7, 1946 to William Arthur Ryder and Anna Mary Kizzle, after declining health and a bout with pneumonia, passed away at his home on May 12, 2025. He was 78 years old.
Jim was preceded in death by his son, David and his grandson Christopher Scott Farmer. He leaves behind his wife of 51 years, Patricia; his daughter Kelly and son-in-law, Dean Lewis; his granddaughter, Kaitlyn; his great grandchildren, Christopher Farmer III and Riley Shorter. He also leaves behind his beloved cat, Bella.
Jim was a Vietnam Veteran, awarded the Purple Heart for injuries. He retired from the US Army after 22 years. He then worked at PWC in the water department and retired after 20 years.
He was an avid Elvis fan and collected Elvis memorabilia and went to many Elvis Impersonation shows. He loved football and was a Carolina Panthers fan from the beginning. After retiring twice, Jim took up gardening. When mobility became a problem,he traded in real flowers for silk flowers that didn't need the same care. He spent his time arranging them in pots.
His love and care will be missed by all his family and friends.
A visitation for James will be held Friday, May 16, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Reeves Funeral Home, 3308 N Main St, Hope Mills, North Carolina 28348. A funeral service will occur Friday, May 16, 2025 at 1:00 PM, 3308 N Main St, Hope Mills, North Carolina 28348. A burial with military honors will occur Friday, May 16, 2025 at Cumberland Memorial Gardens, 4509 Raeford Rd, Fayetteville, North Carolina.
