

He was born March 2, 1936 in Bennettsville, South Carolina to the late Joe Hugh and Mary Driggers Strickland. John graduated from Lower Marlboro County High School in Blenheim, South Carolina. After graduation, he moved from Bennettsville to Fayetteville where he worked at Kelly Springfield Tire Company as Maintenance Supervisor where he retired after thirty years. He was an electrician by trade.
Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Betty Driggers Strickland, this year would have made 60 years of marriage; children John Rodney Strickland, Keith Marion (Doughnut) Strickland; sisters Sandra Strickland Hyatt, Evelyn Strickland Foster; brothers Michael Paul Strickland, Clarence Strickland and a grandchild, Christina Michelle Grimes.
He was a gentle man of God and loved his family. His favorite bible verse was Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make all your paths straight.
The family would like to thank Dr. Natalie Grove & Courtney and ALL staff at UNC Cancer Center, Debbie at Hope Mills Plaza Florist and Christine Bennetts McLean at Reeves Funeral Home.
Survivors include children, Teryle Strickland Oakes of Parkton, Kathy Strickland Quinn of St. Pauls; grandchildren Melissa Danielle Fitchett, Amber Melton Williams, John Garrison Melton; great grandchildren, Taylor Brooke Fitchett, Kameron Blake Scott, Jesse Darryl Bullard and Hannah Nichole Williams.
Funeral services will be Thursday, August 17, 2017 at 2 pm at Northwood Temple on Ramsey Street with interment at Hope Mills Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12-2 pm at the church prior to the funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Reeves Funeral Home 3308 N. Main Street, Hope Mills, NC 28348 for the family.
