Joyce grew up in Marianna, Arkansas and moved to Fayetteville, North Carolina in the early 80's. She proudly served 12 years in the United States Army and retired as a Sergeant First Class. During her service she was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal Bronze Clasp, National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Oversea Service Ribbon, and the NCO Development Ribbon.
Joyce enjoyed sewing, and loved making quilts and blankets. She enjoyed watching soap opera's, and The Oprah Winfrey Show; as well as going on walks and gardening.
Joyce is preceded in death by her parents, Sterling Smith and Leola Burton; her husband, David Williams; her son, David Williams Jr.; and her sister, Rose Marie Smith. She is survived by her son, Jonathan Williams; her four brothers, Larry Smith, David Lee Smith, Sterling Smith Jr., and Jimmy Smith; and her granddaughter, Oaklyn Marie Williams.
