

Fayetteville Mrs. Margaret “Marge” Barnes, 92, of Fayetteville passed away on Tuesday, June 6, 2017. She was born in Paris, Arkansas, August 16, 1924. She was the fifth of seven children born to Barney and Fannie Geesing.
At age 19, she married her first husband, Guy V. Stegall, and became a military wife for the next 18 years. As a homemaker, she devoted her life to raising her two daughters, enjoying sewing, gardening, fishing and traveling with her family.
As a young widow, she enjoyed a rewarding second career as a dental assistant, working for the federal government at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas and Ft. Bragg, North Carolina.
Marge was blessed with a second marriage to Andrew “Mac” Barnes, which spanned 23 years, primarily in Texas. They loved their Methodist church family, and were very involved in adult Sunday School. The game of dominoes and being fans of the Atlanta Braves were two of their shared passions. Upon Mr. Barnes’ passing, she moved back to North Carolina to be closer to family.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Frank and Lawrence and sisters, Helen, Christine and Millie.
Graveside funeral services will be Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 11:00 am at Lafayette Memorial Park on Ramsey Street. Visitation will be Friday, June 9, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Reeves Funeral Home.
She is survived by her two daughters, Guiann Thompson and husband Cliff Thompson of Sanford and Karen Ray of Sanford; sister, Pat Sanzaro of Sebastian, Florida; grandchildren, Carol Thompson, Rusty and Kellie Thompson, Skip and Angie Thompson, and Peggy and Wayne Bergeron; twelve great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.
